Henry Scales New Heights At Regional Youth Climbing Finals
We offer our congratulations to Lower Remove (Y9) pupil, Henry L for his remarkable climbing achievements.
Henry recently competed in the British Mountaineering Council’s Youth Climbing Series and achieved a most impressive result in the final regional round. His outstanding feats on the climbing wall put him in joint second place overall for his region and age category, and qualified him for the National Finals, which are to be held at the Rockstar Climbing Centre in Swindon on the 26th and 27th November. The BMC Youth Climbing Series offers climbing competitions for young people and attracts hundreds of entrants across the country.

The school has a very active Climbing Club, which meets after school each Thursday. Some 25 climbers from Lower Remove to Upper Sixth take part, with everyone taking turns to belay their partners as well as push themselves ever harder on the variety of challenging routes available on the School’s indoor climbing wall. The more experienced climbers also often mentor and coach newer members of the club and there is always a wonderful atmosphere of teamwork and positive support for this mentally and physically challenging sport.
The striking three-storey McClatchey Climbing Wall in the Keyes Building is dedicated to Robert McClatchey, who is a Governor of the school and an OV. It is over 12 metres high and has an abseiling gallery at the top, offering tremendous opportunities to practice, develop and improve techniques. Climbing becomes a games option at King’s in the Sixth Form and we currently have 10 Sixth Form climbers spending their games session on the wall each week. King’s sends climbers to the annual inter-schools’ competition organised by Bredon School at Redpoint Climbing Wall; unfortunately, the competition didn’t go ahead this year, but King’s Worcester climbers are looking forward to their next opportunity to compete.
Well done Henry upon your amazing achievement; the King’s Foundation wishes you the best of luck in the National Finals.
