Hitting the opposition for six at the Solihull 6s
King’s Worcester had an outstanding week of cricket at Solihull last week, coming away with two teams as winners and two as semi-finalists.
The format of this six-a-side tournament was five overs per innings and such a short innings meant that each team had to be aggressive when batting and keep their bowling as tight as possible.
U12s: Winners
The U12s put together a very impressive day at the Solihull Sixes, eventually coming out as winners. Following two wins and a defeat in the group stages, the team waited with bated breath to find out whether they had qualified for the cup semi-final; thanks to some excellent batting in the final group game they managed to secure the top spot. Once through to the cup semi-finals, the confidence in the team grew. This was clear in dominant performances in both the semi-final against RGS Worcester and the final against Warwick School. The combination of outstanding batting and very consistent bowling made the side impressive winners on the day.
U13s: Semi-Finalists
This was a real highlight of the season for the U13 boys, who played better and better each game, listening to feedback and implementing it in their next game. This resulted in two wins and a defeat in the group stage. The team ended up going through to the semi-finals to face Solihull for the second time in the day.
Director of Rugby and U13s cricket coach Ben Williams added, “The whole team was fantastic, and it was a special day for the boys. It was brilliant for them to experience a semi-final together.”
U14s: Semi-Finalists
The U14s gave a good account of themselves at Solihull . They emerged top of their group, winning three out of three. The boys then lost a tight semi-final vs Loughborough. It was a gripping contest, but needing six off the last ball, we just fell short. Overall it was a fantastic and enjoyable day for all involved.
U15s: Winners
Our U15s showed great determination and skill to win the Solihull Sixes for the first time. After winning their group, some confident batting and accurate bowling saw the team win their semi-final game against Warwick with a ball to spare. Next was the final against a strong Solihull side. After a thrilling match, our U15s were crowned winners. Their immense effort was rewarded with a well-deserved victory.
