Impressive Performances at Regattas Despite Difficult Conditions

Senior Rowers from King’s have continued their excellent Summer Regatta season, demonstrating their exceptional skill and determination across numerous events at Wallingford and Dorney Lake.

Wallingford Regatta, Dorney Lake

Five crews from our senior boys and girls squads travelled to Dorney Lake to race at Wallingford Regatta which attracted crews from all over the country and as far afield as South Africa.

The strong, cold winds made for challenging conditions on the start and down the 2000 metre course.

The standout performance for the day came from our Girls Pair of Amelia V and Rebecca N, who raced in the Women’s Challenge event final. The girls had a great start and rowed a great race to place fourth in the tough field.

Our boys Quad Scull and Coxed Four placed fifth in their heats, with the Coxless Four placing 6th, while the Girls Coxed Four placed fifth; denying them all a place in the final despite their exceptional determination.

Junior Sculling Regatta, Dorney Lake

This major, national event in the junior rowing circuit attracted over 500 crews from across the county and beyond.

Crews were greeted by the same difficult conditions those at the Wallingford Regatta had faced, which ultimately meant that the event organisers cancelled some of the racing.

Our crews were in fine form and all four sculled brilliantly well in their time trials to progress to the B- Finals, just a fraction of a second from qualifying for the A – Final.

Our Year 10 Boys Coxed Quad Scull placed ninth in their time trial and came third in their final.

The Year 10 Girls Coxed Quad Scull placed 7th in their time trial and had a great battle at the front of the field to come second in the final.

The Fifth Form Boys Quad Scull were also 7th in their time trial and took third in their final. The Sixth Form Boys Quad Scull also came 7th in their time trial over 1900 metres, but were denied the opportunity to race over 2000 metres in the final due to the cancellation of the final.

Overall, it was a tremendous day of racing for King’s with all their boats in the top few in the country for their category. The races served as magnificent preparation for the National Schools’ Regatta at the end of the month.
