King’s Athletes Shine in National Finals

Last Saturday marked an impressive day for young King’s athletes Helena C (L4), and Freddie P (U4), who both delivered outstanding performances at national-level competitions.

A Podium Finish for Helena C at the National Cross Country Final

The National Primary and Year 7 Cross Country Final took place at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre in Warwickshire, where Helena C proudly represented the Worcestershire Schools team. She earned her place in the squad after her victory at the County Year 7 Championships at Lakeside Campus in February.

The challenging 3km course proved to be a tough test, with few flat sections . After the dry weather recently the ground was firm and the pace was really fast in all the races.

Helena approached the race with high expectations, especially after securing 33rd place in the CAU Inter-Counties race earlier this month – an event featuring the best Year 7 and 8 athletes from across the UK.

Despite some nerves, Helena ran very well, moving into the top 10 early on and sitting in the top five from the half-way mark. Coming into the last 200m she was sitting in fourth, but mustered an incredible final effort to take third place on the day.

All top five competitors completed the 3km course in under 11 minutes, a testament to the sheer speed and intensity of the race. Helena described it as the hardest race she has ever run – a true display of her determination and resilience.

Freddie P Achieves PB at the GB Schools Biathlon Final

Meanwhile in Bath, another of our King’s Athletes, Freddie P, showcased his talent at the GB Schools Biathlon Final at Bath University.

Demonstrating immense progress and determination, Freddie shaved an astonishing 30 seconds off his 1600m qualification run time. In the 100m freestyle swim, he recorded a time just outside his personal best, rounding off an excellent overall performance.

Freddie’s efforts earned him a well-deserved seventh place finish, an achievement he can be extremely proud of. With his rapid improvement and dedication, there are high hopes for his continued development in the sport.
