King’s Community Gathers for Historic Cathedral Installation
Last Friday’s Evensong in the magnificent Worcester Cathedral saw the formal installation of our newly appointed Senior Scholars, as well as our new Senior Deputy, Mr Potts, and Dr Coetzee, Deputy Head (Academic and Innovation).
Many pupils, families and staff from King’s came together to celebrate the achievements of the school’s Scholars as well as to welcome Mr Potts and Dr Coetzee to our community. The King’s choristers added to the magical evening with a number of mesmerising performances.
This year, Freddie B and Ella P will be our Senior Scholars. They have been selected for their exceptional academic performance and leadership skills, and will act as academic ambassadors across the school, helping to coordinate academic events and inspire fellow pupils.
This is a significant achievement for Freddie and Ella, as well as the other scholars selected from the Lower Sixth and Upper Four.
The appointment of our Scholars honours the centuries-old bond between King’s and Worcester Cathedral, which includes the tradition of the King’s Scholars. The Cathedral Statutes of 1544 provided for forty King’s Scholars. By 1880, that number had reduced to twenty, and today they make up 3% of the Senior School.
Congratulations to all our scholars and welcome to Mr Potts and Dr Coetzee.
