King’s Crews Perform Well in Difficult Conditions

Members of King’s Boat Club travelled to Gloucester Rowing Club to compete in the Wycliffe Big Head, as persistent rains caused the event to be moved further up the Gloucester – Sharpness Canal.

This was the first opportunity for many of our rowers to race this season after a series of events have been cancelled. A lack of time on the river impeded our preparation for the event but enhanced the sense of excitement to be back racing.

The team kept their spirits high as the rain fell and a series of delays kept the crews on the water for a couple of hours before they raced.

The racing was of a very high standard as crews from a hundred mile radius raced for the coveted pennants. Our crews performed well across their events and thanks must go to Bluebell M, Merri L, Luke M, Lucas C and Freddie B who raced twice to cover absences, meaning they were on the water for well over five hours in the two divisions.

Our Fifth Form Girls crew of Henrietta V, Florence V, Issy W and Grace M took a well-earned third in their race and gained the highest prognostic time for our crews.

The rowers now look forward to racing at the West Midlands Championships on 1^st March at Stourport.
