King’s Indoor Rowing Championship

On Sunday 22^nd January we hosted local rowing schools and clubs for the annual King’s Indoor Rowing Championships.

The event was well attended, with over 220 young sportswomen and sportsmen racing in individual events during the day, followed by the excitement and furious action of the team relay sprints. Rowers from throughout the region participated, including teams from King Edward’s School, Stratford, Cheltenham College, RGS Worcester, Hereford Rowing Club, Stratford upon Avon Boat Club and Worcester Rowing Club.

The Keyes Building Sports Hall was an excellent venue, with the throngs of supporters and athletes well nourished by a massive array of cakes and drinks provided by the parents of our senior rowers. Head of Rowing, Mr Chalmers added, “The day was a terrific success, a celebration of rowing in the area, with our guests leaving happy and adorned with medals.”

The event was the first competitive rowing event for the majority of our Lower Removes; it was brilliant to see their enthusiasm in some outstanding performances. Freddie G, Freddie B and Dylan L made a clean sweep, winning gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in the Year 9 boys’ 500 metre race. The gold and silver medals in the girls’ event went to Merri L and Emily E. Lucas C picked up a bronze in the Year 9 boys’ 4-minute event. The girls relay team of Merri, Emily E, Emily A and Hebe S also convincingly won their relay race, with the boys taking silver and bronze places and our mixed team also finishing in the silver position.

500 metre individual: Girls: Bronze, Sophie E; Boys: Gold, Ben G; Silver, Dan A; Bronze, Bentley L

Relays: Girls: Gold (Darcey W, Jess M, Jasmine S, Carys M) and Bronze. Boys: Gold (Charlie M-W, Toby A, Dan A, Luke M), Silver and Bronze in a clean sweep of the event.

Year 11:

6-minute individual: Girls: Silver, Rebecca N; Bronze, Ruby I. Boys: Gold, Josh L; Silver, Jack D, Bronze, Elliott B.

500 metre individual: Girls: Silver, Bea B; Boys: Gold, Harry W; Silver, Thomas W.

Relays: Girls: Gold (Amelia V, Rebecca N, Ruby I, Ellie C). Boys: Gold (Josh L, Harry W, Thomas W, Jack D) and Silver. Mixed: Silver.

Sixth Form:

2000 metre individual: Girls: Gold, Freya D; Silver, Millie D.

500 metre individual: Girls: Silver, Émilie C; Bronze, Issy G.

Relays: Girls, Silver; Boys, Bronze; Mixed, Bronze.
