King’s Pupils Win International Rugby Sevens Tournament

Congratulations to pupils Sam B (L6) and Barney D (FF), who both returned from Lisbon as winners at the Junior 7s International Youth Rugby Sevens Tournament.

Representing the UR7s National 7s Academy, with squads of just 13 players selected in each age group from across the UK, Sam competed in the U18 competition while Barney played in the U16 category at one of Europe’s leading youth rugby sevens festivals.

The tournament featured more than 800 players from clubs and schools across Spain, Monaco, Portugal, the UK, Ukraine, USA, Canada, the Channel Islands and South Africa, providing a truly international and highly competitive stage.

Both boys rose to the challenge and were crowned champions in their respective age groups — an outstanding achievement at such a prestigious event.

Barney’s tournament was made even more memorable as he was named U16 Player of the Tournament, recognising his exceptional performances throughout the competition.

To be selected from across the UK and come home as international champions is a remarkable accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of them both.
