On Saturday 20th January King’s hosted the annual Worcester Junior Indoor Rowing Championships. The competition pitted our rowers against others from RGS Worcester Boat Club and Worcester Rowing Club, with over two hundred competitors racing in the sports hall it made for an exciting day. Races included events from Lower Remove (Year 9) up to Sixth Form and a chance to row individually and as part of a relay team.
King’s came home with the majority of the medals, and in some races claimed, first, second and third places, showing the strength and depth of our squads. This was the first time our Lower Removes had competed, with Alice Baker and Alice Clarke coming away with gold and silver respectively. Gene Hughes (Lower Remove) won gold in the Year 9 Boys 500m. Upper Removes; Thomas Holland, Archie Stephan, and Ollie Flanagan took gold, silver, and bronze respectively, in their individual events and then combined with Tom Angell and proved their strength by winning the relay almost a minute ahead of the competition. Beatrice Beever (Upper Remove) also excelled, winning in her five minute event and relay as did Sophie Lee (Upper Sixth) who also managed to win both her individual and relay event.
