King’s Swimmers Excel at Worcester County Championships
The Worcester County Championships are held over three weekends at our local pool at Perdiswell and at the Commonwealth Pool in Sandwell.
The Worcester County takes in clubs from a vast area, stretching from Hereford to Sandwell. To compete in the County Championships, participants must log a swim within a nine-month window and qualify with a certain time for each event.
The King’s swimmers performed incredibly well, winning medals and Junior (U16) and Senior titles.
Ben G (17/over) had a highly successful championships, winning Gold in the 100IM and 200m Butterfly and Silver in the 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle and Butterfly and 100m Freestyle and Butterfly. Ben’s 100IM set the fastest time of all the male swimmers, meaning he won the overall Senior title.
Harry C (16yr) also performed very well, winning Gold in the 400m Freestyle, 100m and 200m Butterfly and Silver in the 50m Butterfly. Harry was the overall fastest male in the 400m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly, winning him the Senior titles. Unfortunately, illness prevented Harry competing in the last weekend, which was a great shame after all his hard work leading up to the event.
Grace E (17/over) was also prevented from competing in some events due to illness but won Gold in the 50m Breaststroke, Silver in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 200IM. Her 50m Breaststroke was the fastest overall time, earning Grace her first Senior title.
Dylan L (15yr) won Gold in the 50m and 100m Freestyle, 50m and 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke, Silver in 50m Butterfly and Bronze in the 100IM. Dylan’s times in the 50m Freestyle, 50m and 100m Backstroke were the fastest for Under 16-year-old males, earning him three Junior titles.
Catherine H (15yr), never afraid of the more gruelling events, won Silver in the 200m Butterfly and Bronze in the 400IM and 1500m Freestyle.
Aled L (16yr) won Gold in the 200m Breaststroke and Silver in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke.
Grace R (16yr) won Bronze in 200m Breaststroke.
OV Hannah Woodcock, currently swimming out of Swansea University, showed her class by winning the overall Senior titles for 100m and 200m Breaststroke and the 200IM.
Other King’s swimmers competing were Erin L, Freddie P, Cleo F, Alex McV, Mia G, Isabella R , Elissa O, Sophie E, Rowan T, and Lara J.
It is a great achievement to qualify for the County Championships and the standard of swimming in the area is high, so to have such fantastic results from our pupils is simply amazing.
Swimming training before and after school, juggling homework and family life is not easy, so we’re delighted that the swimmers have achieved such success.
