King’s Swimmers Excel in ESSA Swimming Super League

Twenty-four King’s pupils from Lower Fourth through to the Upper Sixth travelled to Dean Close School in Cheltenham on Thursday to compete in the opening round of the English Schools’ Swimming Association’s (ESSA’s) new Swimming Super League.

This exciting national competition, open to all schools in England, features three divisional rounds culminating in a national final, with swimmers taking part in both individual races and team relays.

Following King’s outstanding results at the ESSA National Team Championships last month, the squad was eager to showcase its continued progress. Having been entered into the Bristol region for the divisional stages, King’s faced opposition from hosts Dean Close School, Berkeley Green, Marling, and Stroud High School.

From the first race to the last, King’s swimmers displayed superb technique, determination, and team spirit. There were exceptional performances across the board, with numerous victories in both individual and relay events – far too many to list – which reflects the depth of talent throughout the school teams.

A particular highlight came from Harry C (U6CH), who set an unofficial Swimming Super League record in the Open Boys’ 50m Butterfly – an outstanding achievement. Special recognition is also due to Edith D, who demonstrated excellent commitment to the team by competing in her races before returning to school to perform in the senior production of Chicago the very same evening.

At the end of an exciting and competitive gala, King’s secured a comfortable first place, a result that underscores the strength of the school’s swimming programme and provides great confidence ahead of the next round, scheduled for next term.

Congratulations to all swimmers who took part:
