King’s Swimmers “splash and dash” in local gala
On Tuesday, 21 swimmers from the Senior School travelled to Warwick School for a friendly swimming gala. Boys and girls swam in two age groups, 11/12 and 13/14 years. The gala consisted of 50 metre swims of each of the four strokes and a Freestyle and Medley Relay in each age group.
With Warwick’s pool due to be used later in the evening for another event, timings were tight, so the swimmers had to jump straight into the pool on arrival for a short warm-up.
Lizzie Monkhouse, who coaches the Senior School Swim Team, added,
“The gala was certainly the speediest I have experienced in the 20 plus years I have attended them, with literally seconds between each race; it brought a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘Splash and Dash’!”
The swimmers thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with many of them opting to swim more races than those for which they were originally selected. It was lovely to see them enjoying their sport whilst also being proud to represent their school.
We lost many our squad to other sporting commitments and due to illness, including two that very morning, but the swimmers who were able to take part performed incredibly well and the gala was extremely close, with King’s narrowly missing a win by just two points. Well done swimmers!
