King’s Swimming Academy’s U12 and U13 Swimmers Claim Impressive Wins

Sixteen King’s pupils from the Lower Years recently travelled to Warwick School to take part in the Warwick Sprints swimming gala, against eighteen different school teams from across the Midlands.

The team was made up of pupils from the King’s Worcester Swimming Academy, who all train in our school pool before and/or after school several times a week.

There were plenty of opportunities for all the pupils to put the diving, turning and relay changeover skills that they have been developing into practise under race conditions, in the 100m Individual Medley, 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly events. Each pupil was able to swim in at least one individual event, as well as in their team’s 4 x 50m Freestyle and Medley relay.

After an afternoon of back-to-back racing, the U12 boys’ team came 1st overall; the U13 boys’ and girls’ team both came 4th overall, and the U12 girls’ team came 5th overall, with all three teams narrowly missing out on 3rd place by just 3 points.

These results meant that the U12 and U13 Boys also won the combined team trophy as well, which is a fantastic achievement!

There were some outstanding individual results in the 50m sprints and 100m Individual Medley, many of which were personal best times, with victory going to Matthew P (L4) in the 50m Breaststroke, who also finished 2nd in the 100m Individual Medley.

Cleo F (U4), (2nd – 50m Backstroke), Harry C (L4), (2nd – 50m Backstroke), and Teddy C (L4), (3rd – 50m Butterfly), also finished in the medal positions.

There was further success in the relays, with the U12 boys winning both their 4 x 50m Freestyle and Medley relays; the U12 girls finishing 2nd in their 4 x 50m Freestyle relay; the U13 girls winning their 4 x 50m Medley relay, and the U13 boys finishing in a very respectable 3rd place in both of their relays – a result made even more impressive considering that two of the Year 7 boys had to ‘swim up’ an age group, due to illness on the day.

Well done to Amelia B (L4), Evie R (L4), Fliss T (L4),  Helena C (L4), Shreya V (L4), Cleo F (U4), Edith (U4), Erin (U4), Hattie T (U4), Harry (L4), Jonas (L4), Matthew (L4), Sam (L4), Teddy (L4), Freddie P (U4) and Rowan T (U4), who all swam and represented KSW extremely well.
