King’s Worcester Hockey: National Selection for Amy
King’s Sixth Form student and dedicated hockey enthusiast Amy H (U6) has been selected to represent Wales at the EuroHockey5s Championship 2023 in Poland.
Upper Sixth student Amy was invited to train with the Welsh Senior Women’s Team earlier this month. She continues to be part of the U23 Squad, but this is an additional representation and as such is a great achievement for someone still so young.
More recently, it was announced that Amy was one of ten players chosen to represent Wales at the EuroHockey5s Championships. From 28th June to 1st July, Amy will play alongside the best women’s Hockey5s teams in Europe, competing in Walcz, Poland as part of this year’s championships. As a further incentive, there are three team spots up for grabs in the inaugural FIH (International Hockey Federation) Hockey5s Women’s World Cup Oman 2024.
Ten teams will participate in the Championships, with two pools of five teams competing in the initial round. Amy’s team will be playing in Pool A, against Georgia, Poland, Switzerland and Turkey.
The Welsh Head Coach, Walid Abdo commented, “I’m really looking forward to working with this group in this exciting format of Hockey 5s. The group is a mix of experience and future talent for Wales, so I think we can surprise a few of the other teams.”
After each team has played the others in their pool once, the top two teams in the pool qualify for the semi-finals. After the semi-finals, the losing teams will play for the bronze medal, and the two finalists and the bronze medallist will all qualify for the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024.
Director of Sport, Mrs Miller-Symonds added,
“We are so very proud to see Amy represent the Senior Welsh Team in the Women’s EuroHockey5s Championship this year. This is an incredible achievement for a U18 hockey player and is thoroughly well-deserved after all the dedication and hard work she has put into her sport during her time at King’s Worcester. We wish her and her teammates all the very best for the tournament.”
We join in wishing Amy and her team every success in these exciting championships.
