KSW Pupils Take to the Skies in Thrilling Aviation Experience
On Sunday, June 9th, four more KSW pupils had the exciting opportunity to take to the air from Gloucestershire Airport in a light aircraft under the expert guidance of Mr Knights. Catherine H, Alex M, Freddie G, and Will J all enjoyed a hands-on flying experience, putting their principles of flight knowledge into practice.
Despite the cloudy weather, visibility was excellent, providing clear views all the way to the centre of Birmingham from a height of about 3,000 feet over Worcester. Each pupil observed the primary effects of the main flight controls, which are common to all fixed-wing aircraft. They also gained valuable experience in navigation, successfully identifying and navigating around the main towns in the Worcester area before returning safely to the airfield.
In addition to the practical flying experience, the pupils had the chance to rehearse and use proper aviation communication. They communicated with air traffic control using appropriate terminology, with a special mention to Will J for his impressive radio skills.
A highlight of the day was flying over the School and seeing their homes from the air, which offered a unique perspective and made the experience even more memorable.
This aviation outing provided a fantastic opportunity for these KSW pupils to gain flying experience this year. Thanks to the dedication and support of Mrs Gamble, Ms Gamble, and Mrs Roberts, who helped supervise the pupils both on the ground and in the air, the day was a great success.
This experience not only enriched the pupils’ understanding of aviation but also sparked a sense of adventure and curiosity about flying. It was a day filled with learning, excitement, and unforgettable views, demonstrating the value of hands-on learning experiences outside the traditional classroom setting.
