Lower Sixth Learn More About MND Following Exceptional Fundraising Efforts

Lower Sixth students welcomed Stuart Garfield from the Motor Neurone Disease Association to a Life Skills session on Thursday, deepening their understanding of the condition and the charity’s work following significant fundraising efforts by the King’s community.

Mr Garfield delivered a thoughtful and moving presentation, helping students learn more about motor neurone disease while also sharing his own personal experiences.

The visit came after an outstanding six months of fundraising at King’s. Before Christmas, the Boat Club raised more than £6,500 through its Million Metre Row, while the Maths Society contributed a further £1,700 from its Vegas Evening earlier this year.

The funds raised will help support people living with motor neurone disease, campaign for better care and fund ground-breaking research.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland focused on MND care, research and campaigning. It has more than 1,300 active volunteers and around 300 paid staff dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by the disease.

Motor neurone disease is a life-shortening neurological condition that affects the nerves controlling movement. It causes progressive muscle weakness, which can affect how a person walks, talks, eats, drinks and breathes.

King’s is very grateful to Mr Garfield for visiting and for giving students such an informative and inspiring session.
