Lower Sixth MedSoc Students Enjoy Trip to The Three Counties Medical School

On Wednesday, thirteen aspiring healthcare professionals from the Lower Sixth participated in an immersive and inspiring day of hands-on activities and educational sessions at the prestigious Three Counties Medical School.

The event was designed and delivered by current medical students, offering a unique insight into life as a medical student and the practical skills involved in the profession.

We were delighted to be joined by fellow students from Worcester Sixth Form College, fostering a collaborative and engaging learning environment.

The day began with a series of interactive workshops, starting in the Anatomy Lab, where students had the opportunity to work with the Anatomage Table—a state-of-the-art, life-sized, 3D digital dissection tool. This cutting-edge technology allowed students to explore human anatomy in remarkable detail, enhancing their understanding of bodily systems and structures.

Following this, students participated in an ECG tutorial using a medical mannequin. They also explored anatomical models of the heart and lungs, deepening their knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory physiology.

In the afternoon, the group moved to the Clinical Skills Room, where they were introduced to essential emergency procedures. Under the guidance of medical students, they practiced CPR on digital mannequins and learned how to respond to choking incidents using choking vests.

The simulated hospital ward also featured life-cast patient models, allowing students to observe and measure vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, and respiratory rate; all key components of patient observation and care.

The day ended with a lively discussion and Q&A session, where students had the chance to ask questions about medical school life, the application process and career pathways in medicine. The openness and enthusiasm of the medical students made this a particularly valuable and inspiring part of the day.

The experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. It provided a rare and valuable glimpse into the world of medicine, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Our students left the event feeling motivated, informed and more determined than ever to pursue their ambitions in the medical field.

King’s students interested in following medical careers are supported by a range of focused resources and activities. These include a schedule of trips, regular talks from external speakers, as well a staff member dedicated to supporting university applications to medical courses.
