Smashing Start for Newbie Netballers

The netball season has started very well, with great commitment and enthusiasm from our younger players in particular.

The Upper Fourth had two pre-season training sessions before term began, and it was wonderful to see how very well attended both were. The Lower Fourth then joined the Upper Fourth and together they enjoyed the School’s Netball Festival, where over 70 girls mixed between year groups for lots of skills development and match play in the glorious September sunshine.

Last Saturday saw the Lower Fourth U12 As and Bs in their first fixture for ‘Big King’s’ against Solihull School. This was also the first fixture on our fantastic new courts, which provided a really great venue for the games, in which the girls played with real spirit and commitment, sadly losing both matches despite all their efforts.

Also on Saturday, the Upper Fourth U13s enjoyed a brilliant training workshop with Miss Herdman and Miss Haynes, our new performance netball coach, who also coaches the First team. They were really put through their paces and practised a great range of skills and drills to prepare them for their first Cup fixture, which will be on Tuesday the 26th of September, playing away against The Grange School, Northwich.

Netball is certainly proving very popular already this year, with 78 Lower Years pupils attending netball club after school, so the season promises to be a very successful one, once again.
