School Concert Delights with Eclectic Musical Mix

King’s musicians showcased their talent and versatility at the third school concert of the year, presenting an evening of music from swing to classical favourites and film themes, performed by the school’s larger ensembles.

The programme opened in upbeat style with King’s Swingers, who launched the concert with two lively numbers that immediately set an energetic tone in the hall.

The Lower Years Choir followed with a beautiful rendition of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, featuring an expressive descant in the final verse, before turning to the jaunty Jamaican Farewell.

The Chamber Orchestra offered an eclectic mix, including a Minuet by Dittersdorf and an arrangement of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect.

The School Choir then presented a large-scale setting of Psalm 150, commissioned by the school 10 years ago for the 475th anniversary celebrations. They also performed the unusual Geographical Fugue, a spoken piece delivered throughout with crisp ensemble timing.

The Wind Band entertained the audience with The Fairground Suite by Stuart Johnson, including a suitably spooky ‘ghost train’ complete with screams and evil laughter, followed by a lively ‘Rollercoaster’.

To conclude the evening, the Orchestra performed a crowd-pleasing medley of themes from Harry Potter, bringing the concert to a dramatic close.

Following the event, Head of Foundation, Mr Charles, paid special tribute to the Upper Sixth pupils, recognising the commitment and leadership they have contributed to music at King’s over the years.

Congratulations to all our talented performers on all your hard work in delivering another fantastic evening.
