School Concert Fills College Hall with Exceptional Performances
College Hall was filled with music as 100 pupils from the Lower Four to Upper Sixth took to the stage for this term’s School Concert.
The evening opened in style with the King’s Swingers performing Bone Town Blues, a lively showcase for the band’s three trombonists. Their set also included a beautifully delivered rendition of What a Wonderful World, featuring accomplished guest soloist Sam P from the Lower Sixth.
The School Choir continued the programme with repertoire from their recent tour to The Netherlands. Highlights included a moving arrangement of the Zulu prayer Duduz’ amoya wami by Mabuza, enriched by a wonderful solo from Lower Sixth’s John E.
Instrumental ensembles were equally impressive. Both the Second Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra delivered polished performances, while the First Orchestra brought real energy to the hall with a spirited interpretation of a Schubert march.
The evening concluded with a memorable massed finale, uniting the First and Second Orchestras with the Wind Band. Sixty musicians joined forces to perform the well‑known theme from the slow movement of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, followed by a vibrant rendition of Susato’s La Moresque, bringing the school concert to a powerful close.
This was one of the hightlights of the music calendar at King’s, which includes regular concerts, informal performances and open mic nights.
