Second King’s Team Through to Regionals as U16 Netballers Qualify

The U16A Netball Team has had an incredible start to their season, showcasing skill, determination, and teamwork in both the District and County Tournaments, securing their place at Regionals.

District Tournament:

On Friday, 8th November, the U16A Netball Team participated in the District Tournament held at our home Netball Courts. The team played exceptionally well, competing in four matches, winning three out of four, and finishing 2nd overall to progress to the County Tournament.

County Tournament:

On Thursday, 14th November, the U16A Netball Team travelled to Bromsgrove for the County Tournament. Despite finishing 2nd in the District round, the girls faced a tougher group at the County level, but they rose to the challenge admirably.

Game One saw the team face Hanley Castle. The girls started strong with clinical centre-pass attacks and excellent through-court plays. Their defensive pressure was outstanding, leading to a half-time score of 13-0. With several changes made, the girls seamlessly adapted and continued their fine form, finishing the match with a dominant 22-4 win.

In Game Two, the team took on Wolverley. Changes were made again to try different combinations, but the girls maintained their high intensity. At half-time, they were leading 13-1. The second half saw no let-up, ending with a convincing 27-2 victory.

The final group game against Bromsgrove was a crucial decider for the top spot in the group. The game began evenly, with both teams displaying strong plays. However, towards the end of the first half, some errors crept in, and the team’s connections faltered slightly, allowing Bromsgrove to lead 7-4 at the break. After half-time adjustments, the girls showed remarkable resilience and determination, closing the gap with relentless defensive effort and composed shooting under pressure. The match ended in a 10-10 draw, with King’s topping the group on goal difference. The support and encouragement from the sidelines were instrumental in this result.

Finishing 1st in the group meant a semi-final against Stourport. The match started closely, with both teams scoring goal-for-goal. However, the girls ramped up their defensive intensity, converting turnovers into goals to lead 9-3 at half-time. Determined to secure their spot at Regionals, the team gave their all and claimed a 14-7 win.

In the final, the team faced Bromsgrove once again. It was a tightly contested game, with both sides making errors in the first half, which ended 2-4 in Bromsgrove’s favour. With tired legs on court, changes were made for the last seven minutes. Despite the team’s best efforts and a goal-for-goal start to the second half, Bromsgrove found their rhythm and pulled away, winning 9-4.

The U16A Netball Team finished the tournament as runners-up and secured their place at Regionals. Every player contributed, both on and off the court, showcasing incredible teamwork, resilience, and determination. The coaches were immensely proud of the team’s performance throughout both tournaments.

Well done, girls! Onwards to Regionals!
