Senior Swimming Teams Shine at National Relay Competition

King’s Worcester’s senior girls’ and boys’ swimming teams travelled to London to compete in the prestigious national swimming competition, the 2026 Bath Cup & Otter Medley Relays, held at the iconic London Aquatics Centre.

This national cup competition is one of the highlights of the school swimming calendar, attracting top school teams from across Great Britain. With its outstanding reputation and exceptionally strong field, the event provided an exciting and memorable experience for the King’s swimmers, who represented the school with determination, teamwork and skill.

The girls’ team, made up of Catherine H, Grace R, Hattie T and Mia G, delivered a superb set of performances. In the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay, the team secured a very respectable 20th place. They then produced an even stronger performance in the 4 x 50m Medley Relay, qualifying 8th fastest for the final before improving on their heat time to finish in an outstanding 6th place out of 35 schools, making them the highest-placed school from the Midlands.

The boys’ team of Aled L, Ben G, Dylan L and Harry C also produced impressive performances, narrowly missing out on podium finishes in both of their events. In the 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay, they achieved a strong 7th place, while in the 4 x 50m Medley Relay they secured 8th place, finishing in a time that was just a few seconds outside the medal positions and once again as the highest-placed school from the Midlands.

Both teams demonstrated tremendous effort, resilience and competitive spirit throughout the evening, performing with confidence in one of the country’s most prestigious swimming venues.

The event also marked a bittersweet moment for the boys’ team, as it was the final long-course relay competition for Upper Sixth pupils Aled, Ben and Harry, who will be leaving King’s at the end of the academic year. Grace, the Upper Sixth Female Swimming Captain, will also be finishing this year. All four pupils have made a remarkable contribution to swimming at King’s Worcester during their time in the King’s Foundation, and the school extends its sincere thanks for their commitment, leadership and achievements. We wish them every success as they move on to university.

It was especially fitting that King’s Swimming Academy teacher Lizzie Monkhouse was present to support the swimmers at this event. Having supported many of them since their early years at King’s Hawford and King’s St Alban’s, she has played an important role in their development as swimmers throughout their time in the Foundation.

A huge congratulations all who represented King’s Worcester superbly. Special mention must go to Hattie and Mia, who both achieved significant long-course relay personal bests in the Olympic pool – a clear sign that the future remains extremely bright for swimming at King’s as the next generation of swimmers come through the school!
