Sixth Formers Explore the Power of Languages
Twelve Sixth Form linguists studying French, German and Spanish recently attended the “Beyond Words” Languages Conference hosted at Monmouth School.
Pupils discussed the benefits of learning languages and pursuing language study beyond school with Sixth Formers from other schools.
They examined the important role it plays in exploring ideas, understanding cultures and developing the critical, resilient and creative thinking needed to engage professionally with an interconnected world.
The conference, organised by Monmouth School in conjunction with the University of Cambridge, also offered pupils the opportunity to attend a taster university lecture by the Draper Professor of French at Cambridge, Professor Charles Forsdick. Professor Forsdick gave a fascinating insight into the colonial history of the francophone world, particularly focussing on his recent research in New Caledonia.
Our King’s linguists enjoyed exchanging experiences with other language learners and exploring different degree options for potential future study.
