U13 Boys’ Water Polo Team Finish Home Season Unbeaten
King’s hosted its final home water polo fixture of the academic year on Monday, welcoming an Under 13 team from KES Birmingham for a friendly match in the school pool.
The fixture marked another positive milestone for King’s developing water polo programme and provided an excellent opportunity for the school’s young water polo players to showcase the skills they have developed throughout the year.
The match gave the Year 7 and 8 boys the chance to put their learning into practice in another competitive fixture. Fourteen players represented King’s in this match: Jonas H, Bryn L, Matthew P, Henry R, Harry C, Rufus P, Henry W, Rory T, Tom C, Monty E, Teddy C, Thomas E, Charlie W, and Theo S, who was making his water polo debut for the school.
King’s made an outstanding start, racing into a 5–1 lead during the opening quarter thanks to goals from Harry, Jonas and Henry W. With a comfortable advantage established, the coaching staff took the opportunity to rotate players into different positions, allowing the squad to gain valuable experience across the pool. Top scorer Harry even switched to goalkeeper, demonstrating his versatility while enabling his teammates to experience playing in different positions.
KES Birmingham responded with some well-worked passages of play and managed to reduce the deficit, but further goals from Monty and Teddy ensured King’s remained in control. The visitors continued to battle hard in the third quarter and narrowed the gap slightly. However, the disciplined teamwork and growing confidence from King’s meant they always looked the stronger side.
Having experimented with different combinations during the middle stages of the game, King’s returned to its strongest line-up for the final quarter. The team finished strongly, adding further goals to secure a convincing victory and bring the home season to a successful conclusion, with the boys’ team finishing unbeaten in all of their home matches.
The school extends its congratulations to all of the players for their commitment and enthusiasm throughout the year, and especially to Theo on making his water polo debut.
Particular thanks also go to Worcester Crocodiles Water Polo Club for their continued support in helping with this fixture. Their ongoing encouragement has played an important role in the continued growth of water polo at King’s.
