U15 Girls Display Exceptional Skills at Regional Lady Taverners Tournament

King’s U15 girls produced a spirited and skilful display of indoor cricket at the Regional Lady Taverners Tournament, showcasing impressive teamwork, resilience, and technical ability throughout a tightly contested day.

Pool Game 1: vs St Helen and St Katharine’s

Facing a strong opponent in their opening match, King’s lost the toss and were sent in to field. What followed was a sensational display of fielding. The girls started with real intensity, applying pressure through tight bowling and sharp stops to prevent the ball reaching the walls and limiting runs effectively. Charlotte set the tone with a brilliant catch in the very first over, followed swiftly by a run out from Florence and another sharp run out by Daisy the very next ball.

As St Helen’s attempted to rebuild, Elin delivered a game-changing moment with an outstanding fast, flat catch, swinging momentum firmly back in King’s favour. The team’s fielding discipline restricted their opponents to 61/6 – a superb effort.

In reply, openers Tilly and Effie got the team off to a promising start. Although both fell after their positive contributions, captain Hermione kept the scoreboard ticking with composed batting. With wickets falling at intervals, Florence held her nerve in the final over with mature shot selection to seal a thrilling win. A fantastic start that set the tone for the day.

Pool Game 2: vs Newcastle-under-Lyme School

After a short break, King’s returned to action against Newcastle-under-Lyme. Batting first, they posted an imposing 89/1 from their 8 overs, with Tilly retiring after an excellent innings.

King’s again impressed in the field. Elin took another excellent catch, disrupting the opposition’s momentum. The bowlers kept up the pressure with disciplined line and length, while sharp catches from Daisy, Mea, and Tilly limited Newcastle to 60/5. Another solid win meant King’s had two victories from two matches, building strong momentum.

Pool Game 3: vs Thomas Adams School

With temperatures rising both inside and outside the hall, King’s faced a well-drilled Thomas Adams side in their final pool game. Effie starred with the bat, retiring on 21 with two towering sixes. Despite losing a few quick wickets, the girls posted a competitive total of 77/7.

King’s started well with an early breakthrough, and although Thomas Adams had a batter retire early, the bowlers kept applying pressure and took crucial wickets to stay in the contest. Unfortunately, two retired batters returned late on and guided their team to a narrow win, finishing on 87/7.

This result created a three-way tie in the group, with each team winning two out of three games. Final standings were determined by total runs scored across the day, and unfortunately, King’s narrowly missed out on a place in the final.

3rd/4th Place Playoff: vs Nottingham High School

In the Lady Taverners playoff, King’s batted first but struggled to find rhythm after losing early wickets. Daisy showed maturity at the crease and retired with a well-paced innings, while Charlotte played positively and struck a fantastic six to boost the score.

Despite taking five superb wickets in the field, King’s total was just within reach for Nottingham High School, who managed to chase it down in the closing overs.

Across all Lady Taverners matches, the King’s U15 Girls displayed exceptional cricketing skills and a fantastic team spirit. Their fielding was a highlight of the tournament, with sharp run-outs, great catches, and consistently disciplined bowling.

Every player contributed throughout the day, and the team should be extremely proud of their efforts and sportsmanship.

A strong performance all round, with plenty to build on for future competitions.
