U16 Sevens Team Bring Home Prior Park Shield

The U16s are celebrating after a series of hard-fought Sevens matches at the Prior Park tournament saw the Shield return to King’s.

The U16s travelled to Bath on Sunday to compete in tournament, where they faced a particularly tough group in the opening stages.

All three pool matches were close, physical and fiercely contested, with the highlight a hard‑earned draw against an impressive Christ College Brecon side.

These results secured a place in the Shield competition, just as conditions began to deteriorate. Heavy rain swept in, turning the pitches increasingly muddy and making every carry and tackle a challenge.

Despite this, the squad’s resilience shone through. Captain Barney D led superbly from the front, setting the tone with his work rate and composure. The forwards were powerful throughout, with Oli S putting in an immense shift all day. Out wide, the pace and footwork of Ben A, Perry A, and Sam K added a constant threat.

A narrow, one‑score win over Bryanston in the semi‑final set up a dramatic final against King’s Taunton. With rain streaming down, the boys produced a Herculean defensive and attacking effort to secure victory and bring the Shield trophy back to Worcester – an outstanding team achievement in trying conditions.
