Upper Remove Geographers Investigate Shropshire Landscape

Eighty-five geographers from the Upper Remove undertook a fieldwork visit to Carding Mill Valley in Shropshire this week, investigating the physical characteristics of a river landscape.

The trip was split across two days, with one cohort enjoying favourable weather, while the second experienced much more challenging conditions. Despite this, pupils remained fully engaged and enthusiastic throughout – even when faced with soggy recording sheets!

Pupils enjoy Geography fieldwork trip

At a range of sites along the 5km walk, pupils collected primary data, including river measurements used to calculate discharge and assess flood risk. The day also offered opportunities to appreciate the wider landscape, with highlights including the views of the valley from the top and a visit to the Lightspout waterfall.

Pupils enjoy Geography fieldwork trip

The trip was an excellent opportunity to enrich and extend the pupils’ geography studies beyond the classroom. All our young geographers’ were excellent company and a pleasure to take on fieldwork.
