King’s Retains Title at Secondary Schools’ Swimming Gala

Swimmers from King’s were delighted to receive a raft of medals at the recent Droitwich & Worcester City Secondary Schools’ Swimming Gala, held at Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

Twenty-four pupils from Years 7 to 11 competed in the annual annual competion, which invites secondary schools from across the region to take part.

Pupils competed across three age categories: Year 7, Year 8 & 9, and Year 10 & 11. Each relay team consisted of four girls and four boys. Unlike many school swimming galas, swimmers were limited to just one individual event each, ensuring that every member of the team contributed individually and helping to create a more level playing field for the other participating schools.

The gala began in perfect fashion for King’s, with victories in the Medley Relays for the Year 7 girls’ and boys’ teams, as well as the Year 8 & 9 boys’ team. The Year 8 & 9 girls’ team and the Year 10 & 11 girls’ and boys’ teams both finished in a very respectable third place.

There were also a number of outstanding individual performances during the afternoon. Victories were secured by Ellie R, Pippa P, Harry C, Thea E and Sophie P in their respective events. Meanwhile, Oli S, Noah B, Izzy W, Isaac P, Olivia G, Alfie E, Amelia B, Matthew P, Hattie T, Charles C and Jonas H all achieved impressive second or third place finishes.

Success continued in the Freestyle Relays, with the Year 7 girls’ and boys’ teams and the Year 8 & 9 boys’ team once again claiming first place. The Canon Relay team – comprising six swimmers, one girl and one boy from each age group – also performed strongly to finish in third place.

These results ensured that King’s once again finished as comfortable overall winners of the gala, successfully retaining the trophy. RGS Worcester finished in second place, with South Bromsgrove High School taking third.

This excellent result clearly demonstrates that swimming at King’s continues to go from strength to strength, with a very promising future ahead.

Well done to Olivia G, Thea E, Pippa P, Ellie R, Alfie E, Charles C, Noah L, Noah B, Amelia B, Helena C, Fliss T, Shreya V, Edith D, Harry C, Matthew P, Jonas H, Sam M, Isabella W, Hattie T, Sophie P, James C, Rowan T, Isaac P and Oli S, who all represented King’s superbly.

A special mention must also go to Hattie T, who demonstrated exceptional commitment to the team, travelling to London to compete in the national cup competition immediately after the gala. Hattie played an essential role in helping the Senior Girls’ team achieve a fantastic sixth-place finish at this prestigious event.

Thank you to all the supporters who came along to watch and cheer on the teams at the swimming gala. Your support and encouragement, as always, is very much appreciated!
