U13 Girls Make History in First Girls’ Water Polo Fixture

The U13 Girls’ Water Polo made history recently, playing the school’s first-ever girls’ water polo match in a friendly fixture against The King’s High School for Girls.

The fixture provided a valuable opportunity for Year 7 and 8 pupils, who have been training through the King’s Swimming Academy’s Water Polo sessions, to apply their developing skills in a competitive match setting. Representing the school were Fliss T, Bridget P, Isabelle H, Hannah E, Millie B, Grace L, Ava C, Daisy T, Emilia M, Izzy W, Lily S-H, Rosie W and Helena C.

With the programme having only begun in September, the team approached the match with a focus on learning and gaining experience. For many, this was their first opportunity to experience the pace and physicality of competitive water polo. Despite this, the girls demonstrated admirable determination, teamwork and resilience throughout, rising to the challenge against a strong and well-established opposition.

Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive five goals, a notable achievement in their debut fixture and a testament to both their progress and competitive spirit. While the match ultimately ended in defeat, the performance provided a wealth of valuable experience that will serve the team well moving forward.

The fixture also formed an important part of preparations for the team’s entry into the English Schools’ Swimming Association’s National Water Polo Championships. The team will travel to Northampton next on 6th May to compete in the Plate Final – an exciting opportunity and another historic first for King’s.

We wish the team the very best of luck as they continue their Water Polo journey.
