Busy Calendar of Competitive Fixtures for King’s Sports

It has been a busy week for King’s Sports this week, with competitive fixtures taking place across a wide range of sports and age groups.

Netball

The U14 netball team were crowned district champions this week at the Worcestershire District Tournament. The round-robin tournament was held at RGS Worcester, with the team playing in 12-minute matches against Blessed Edward’s, Christopher Whitehead Language College and RGS Worcester. The girls played well and several midcourt combinations were used; they now look forward to progressing to the County rounds, which will be held after half term on Thursday 10th November.

The U16 netball team claimed a place at the County Tournament too after qualifying in their round of the District Tournament. The team played with good composure, excellent teamwork and efficient transitions that ensured that they topped the table and qualified for the County rounds!

Football

The King’s XI have started the season very well by progressing to the third round of the ISFA National Cup. In the first round they overcame Marlborough College after extra time. The match ended 1-1 and King’s scored two quick goals in the first half of extra time to progress to the second round, where they faced Truro School. This was a dramatic, end-to-end game which finished 5-5, meaning the game had to go into extra time again.  Extra time finished 6-6, so the tie had to be decided on penalties, which King’s won 4-1.  We now wait to hear the draw and see who we will play in the third round after half term as well as starting our journey in the ISFA Shield, with an away match at Wolverhampton Grammar school.

Cross Country

On Thursday we took eight Senior School pupils, along with pupils from King’s Hawford and King’s St Alban’s, to Abberley Hall to take part in an annual cross-country event with fourteen other schools.  The runners competed with determination and put in a fantastic performance, resulting in all runners being placed in the top 30 and six pupils finishing in the first 13. This put the girls’ team in second place overall, which is a fantastic achievement. It was great to see pupils from all three schools within the Foundation participating and supporting each other. Well done to all involved

Rugby

The 1st XV played a tough game away at Stowe School in the National Cup. It was a brilliant opportunity for the team to test themselves against very strong opposition.

The U14 A and B teams and the U13s started the week with away fixtures against Warwick School in some lovely autumnal sunshine. All teams played some brilliant rugby and it was a great block of competitive fixtures for our younger athletes.

Hockey

The 1st XI Hockey team had a great afternoon playing in the England Hockey Cup against Bromsgrove School, which ended with the excitement of shuffles.
