External Speakers Welcomed for PSHE Day
Pupils in the Upper Remove participated in the PSHE Day on Wednesday, an annual event where a series of external speakers are welcomed to King’s as part of the school’s ongoing PSHE provision.
Each speaker had been chosen for their real-word experiences and expert insights, which will educate, inspire and support our pupils as the progress into adulthood. The pupils were split into three groups, which then rotated around each session.
Dave Parvin, a former Drug Squad Officer, delivered a passionate talk on the dangers associated with drugs and vaping. Dave has seen the damage and destruction first hand that drugs can bring to those who choose to have a life that involves the use of these substances and is extremely passionate about raising the awareness of the potential risks and dangers associated with this lifestyle.
Andrew Wright spoke about Personal Communication, and how to make a good first impression. Andrew spent 10 years as a broadcaster, journalist and radio and television producer. Since then, he has developed and delivered practical coaching and development programmes for people of all ages, backgrounds and needs.
Karl Hopwood delivered a very informative talk on E-safety. He is an online safety expert with over 15 years’ experience working with schools, teachers, students, parents and other professional to address the challenges posed by modern technology. He sits on the Roblox trust and safety board where he represents the Insafe network and was recently part of an expert steering group with TikTok looking at harmful and dangerous online challenges.
All the pupils agreed that the sessions were informative, encouraging them to consider new issues, or see things from a different perspective. It was a thoroughly informative and enlightening day for all involved.
