Inspiring the Next Generation of Computer Scientists

On Monday 11th November a group of Sixth Form Computer Science students travelled to Warwick University to attend the annual Computer Science in Action Lectures. All speakers were engaging and gave talks that covered many aspects of Computer Science beyond degree level.

Topics included Smart Cities, Distributed Methods for Big Data, Algorithms & Animation and What Next for AI? There was also a very interesting lecture from Dr Matt Scroggs from Cambridge University about Machine Learning where he demonstrated MENACE (Machine Educable Noughts and Crosses Engine) which used over 300 match boxes to demonstrate how a machine could ‘learn’ how to play noughts and crosses through success and failure.

An enjoyable and inspirational day.
