Inter-House Competitions Bring Spring Term to a Thrilling End
It has been incredible couple of weeks of Inter-House and Inter-Form competitions at King’s!
Every year group has brought passion and determination to the competitions, making for some thrilling matchups.
The Lower Years have been in full swing with Football and Hockey tournaments, and the standard of play has been outstanding. Huge congratulations go to U4B and L4A for their fantastic victories in Hockey, and to U4B for claiming the Football title.
Elsewhere, we have seen hard fought battles in House Countdown and ‘Footloose Footsteps’.
The excitement isn’t over yet – the Lower Four Football competition is set for Friday, and we can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
All the points from the competitions will be added together and become part of the hotly-contested House Cup.
Netball
Inter-House netball saw two exciting competitions, with the seniors hitting the court last Thursday and the Removes showcasing their skills on Monday. Both tournaments featured some fantastic netball and saw over 130 girls take part.
The senior final between Castle and Kittermaster was end-to-end and could have gone either way, but congratulations eventually went to Kittermaster for taking the title by one goal, with Oswald taking third and Wulstan in fourth.
The Removes saw a dominant victory for Oswald against Chappel.
Football
Inter-House football was split the same as netball, with a seniors and Removes competition. Competition was fierce over both nights and it was a real showcase of the exceptional standard of football across the school. Nearly 150 boys were involved, in what was a return to the pitch for many after some time away.
Creighton claimed the top spot in the Removes competition, beating Kittermaster in the final, with Chappel third and School fourth. The senior competition saw a final outing for Bright house, before their last U6 tutor group leave King’s. The title was taken by Castle house, in a tight final that was eventually decided by one goal against School, with Oswald in third and Wulstan fourth.
Hockey
Inter-House Hockey brought all five year groups together for an electrifying event, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
The group stage was fiercely competitive, with every match going down to the wire.
In a thrilling final, Castle and Chappel battled it out, with Castle snatching victory in the final seconds – an incredible finish to a hard-fought game! Meanwhile, the third-place playoff was an end-to-end showdown between Wulstan and Oswald, with Wulstan just getting the third place.
Footloose Footsteps
This term saw the much-anticipated return of Footloose Footsteps for the Fifth Form and Upper Sixth.
For those unsure of the concept, Footloose Footsteps is basically Grandma’s Footsteps. Students in their House groups begin in a line, with their Year Group Tutor facing away. Students must travel the length of the Keyes Sport Hall, but if their Year Group Tutor turns around they must freeze. When their tutor looks away again they can continue. The first two to travel the length from each group make it through to a grand final, resulting in a winner.
(The name Footloose Footsteps came from the desire for alliteration, and Footloose happened to be on TV at the time*).
In the Fifth Form, Kittermaster were victorious, and in the Upper Sixth, Chappel were the winners.
*Kevin Bacon is yet to make a guest appearance.
