King’s Cricket Delivers a Season to Remember

It has been a truly memorable season for cricket at King’s, with both our girls’ and boys’ teams delivering outstanding performances and demonstrating unwavering commitment and determination.

Throughout the season, our teams faced strong opposition in fixtures against other schools, prestigious clubs, and in national competitions. The Boys’ 1st XI secured 11 wins from 16 matches, while the Girls’ 1st XI claimed victory in 11 of their 15 games – a testament to their consistency and resilience.

The final two weeks of term alone saw over 50 matches played across our U12–U18 girls’ and boys’ teams. Highlights included well-spirited local contests against RGS and the much-anticipated traditional King’s Day fixtures, where the Boys’ 1st and 2nd XI teams triumphed over the Old Vigornians.

Additionally, three outstanding sixth formers are earning national recognition in cricket. Seth E is proudly representing England Young Lions, Phoebe B has been selected for the ECB Women’s Development XI as well as signing a professional contract for Warwickshire Bears 1st team, and Bryony G is celebrating her first call-up for the ECB Women’s Development XI.

In girls’ cricket, both the 1st XI and U15s reached the quarter-finals of the 100 Ball and T20 National Cups, securing impressive wins against strong opponents including Denstone and Berkhamsted. Their disciplined bowling, dynamic fielding, and intelligent batting made for a complete and commanding display of cricketing talent.

A historic moment came in early June, as the King’s Girls’ 1st XI hosted the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in their first-ever fixture against the renowned club. The girls rose to the occasion with a superb performance, claiming a memorable seven-wicket victory. The landmark day for girl’s cricket was marked by exceptional sportsmanship and talent on both sides. Special congratulations go to Hermione P, who was honoured with the MCC’s Spirit of Cricket Award.

Earlier in the season, the U15 girls impressed as they reached the final stages of the Regional Lady Taverners Tournament thanks to a skilful display of tactical and fast-paced indoor cricket.

In boys’ cricket, the 1st XV topped off a fantastic season, producing a convincing performance to beat RGS in the final local derby fixture of the season. The 2nd XI also delivered a confident, composed performance to secure a further well-earned victory over RGS.

The boys 1st XI annual game against the Gentlemen of Worcestershire proved to be a fantastic event in which we saw some outstanding performances. This showcase game featured a remarkable partnership between Will T and Henry H, who combined for 143 runs off just 109 balls – a stunning effort that sealed a seven-wicket win with nine balls to spare.

We are incredibly proud of how all our teams have represented King’s this season – with tremendous skill, determination, and exceptional spirit.
