King’s Cricketer hits the heights in Worcestershire County Cricket
This week Upper Remove Pupil, Seth E played for the Worcestershire County Cricket Club 2nd XI in a three-day friendly match against the South Asian Cricket Academy.
Seth became a full-time member of the Senior Academy in September 2022, and we congratulate him most warmly upon his call-up to the Worcestershire 2nd XI; he is one of the youngest players ever to have been selected to play in the Men’s 2nd XI, having just turned 15.
On Day One of the three-day friendly, the South Asian Cricket Academy elected to bat. The following day Seth hit 43* off 67 balls, including one six and seven fours. He was the top scorer in Worcestershire’s first innings; the team scored a total of 182.
Seth, a batsman and wicketkeeper, regularly turns out for King’s 1st XI, where he has scored consistently and kept brilliantly all year. He has also featured for the U15s in National Cup Matches. Some of his highlights this year include 87 against Solihull, 44 and 2 catches against Bromsgrove and 52 and 2 stumpings against Cheltenham College.
Cricket certainly isn’t over this year for Seth, as he will represent the Worcestershire Academy against Warwickshire in the ECB Championship on July 2nd. Two days later he will attend his final England Bunbury Trial, and on the 5th and 6th he will play for Worcestershire once more, this time against the Australian National Academy Squad and Wales respectively.
Seth commented, “I had a great three days representing the WCCC 2nd XI. I embraced the challenge of going up against an experienced SACA bowling attack on a tricky Stourbridge wicket. Thankfully, I came away with 43 runs and ended up not out. I gained some solid understanding of what it’s like in the professional game by playing with some top-drawer cricketers and returned home wiser than before, after picking the brains of the best. It was an honour to represent the WCCC 2nd XI alongside four professional cricketers, and their standards have motivated me even more to become a professional cricketer.”
King’s 1st XI coach Mr Gilgrass added, “This was a great day for Seth, stepping up into the realms of men’s professional cricket. I’m sure he’ll learn a huge amount from this experience and it will whet his appetite to play at this level and higher in the future.”
The King’s Foundation congratulates Seth on his fantastic achievement.
