King’s Pupils Learn from Acclaimed Artist-in-Residence

Acclaimed artist and Kings’ artist-in-residence, Ian Murphy, spent last week at the school inspiring pupils and families alike.

The Art Department was delighted to welcome back Mr Murphy, who spent the week working with both Sixth Form and Year 7 pupils. Ian shared his drawing techniques and captivated students with his large-scale paintings, intricate drawings, and beautiful travel sketchbooks.

The week concluded with a Saturday drawing workshop for our Lower Sixth students, where they explored new approaches and developed their skills under Ian’s expert guidance.

His residency was celebrated with an exhibition of his stunning work in the Art School’s renowned Sir Terry Frost Gallery, offering a valuable opportunity for students and parents to experience his art up close.

Further exhibitions in the gallery will take place throughout the year, featuring work from pupils across the school, as well as celebrated artists. Each year culminates in our ambitious and exciting GCSE and A Level exhibitions, alongside an annual Lower Years exhibition that celebrates the achievements of all our pupils.

King’s regularly hosts a number of external artists, including a visiting ceramicist who runs a weekly ceramics club, a visiting print maker who runs an after-school print making club, as well running our ever-popular weekly Lower Years Art Club and open studios every evening.

With endless creative opportunities and a dedicated, skilled team supporting them, it is no surprise our pupils continue to impress with their exceptional work.
