Lower Years in Perfect Harmony

At the start of the school year, collaborative activities are a great way to help the new Lower Years Forms to gel, and the Lower Years Music Competition is very much a part of that process.

For the last four weeks, the Music School has been reverberating with the varied sounds of our eleven Lower Years Forms in their rehearsals as they learned and practised their songs for this week’s Music Competition, developing their teamwork and getting to know one another much better in the process.

The culmination of all this enterprise was a fantastic day of music making. Soloists filled the morning with some excellent performances on a range of instruments and in a wide range of styles, and adjudicator Duncan Barlow, Director of Music at Hereford Cathedral School, selected his favourite items to be reprised at the Winners’ Concert. In the afternoon, the Forms sang show songs, pop songs and rock songs, all displaying great energy, skill, enthusiasm, as well as a flair for dance moves!

It is a shame that parents can only hear a snapshot of this great day, but they can be quite sure that there was lots of fun, lots of music, and a great sense of team spirit.

The winners were:

Lower Fourth Vocal Class: Elodie-Eve H

Lower Fourth Instrumental Class: Rory W

Upper Fourth Vocal Class: Zofia W

Upper Fourth Instrumental Class: Lily L

L4D and U4A won the song competitions, and the runners up were L4B, U4B and U4E.

Many congratulations to everyone who took part, and thanks to the Music Department and Lower Years staff, who did such a great job in supporting their Forms through the rehearsals.

If you were unable to make the concert or would like to watch this again, you can do so by following the link below. Enjoy! See if you can spot Mr Doodes joining in with Uptown Girl.
