One Hundred Talented Performers Shine at School Concert
Our first School Concert of the year featured 100 pupils from the L4 – U6 in seven ensembles.
The concert began in lively fashion with The King’s Swingers performing three pieces culminating in a rendition of Otis Reddiing’s classic song, Respect, made famous by Aretha Franklin. Fifth Form pupil, Flo S, was the guest vocalist who delivered the vocal line in her own style and captivated the audience with her exceptional performance.
The Second Orchestra was in good form with a gentle rendition of the tradition Welsh song, The Ash Grove. The strings of the Chamber Orchestra contrasted their repertoire with a Sinfonia by 18ytyh Century composer, Tartini, and a lyrical arrangement of Lenon & McCartney’s Here, There and Everywhere.
In preparation for The Armed Man concert in Worcester Cathedral on 27th November, the School Choir and Lower Year Choir combined together for two movements from that work, the Sanctus and Benedictus. The Sanctus was particularly dramatic with its wide-ranging dynamics. The whole work will be performed alongside a professional choir and orchestra, The Armonico Consort.
The Wind Band performed two well-known film theme tunes. The Bridge over the River Kwai began with some audience participation whistling before getting going with a rousing march. This was followed by Jurassic Park which demonstrated a wide range of dynamics and moods. The First Orchestra concluding the evening with a confident performance of Rossini’s popular overture, The Thieving Magpie.
