King’s Rowing Community Hosts Annual Indoor Championships

King’s was delighted to welcome over 250 rowers to the Keyes Sports Hall on Saturday, to take part in our annual indoor rowing championships.

Rowers from Hereford, Worcester and Evesham Rowing Clubs along with rowers from Alcester Grammar School, Cheltenham College, Cheltenham Ladies College, King Edward School, Stratford and Royal Grammar School, Worcester enjoyed a full day of indoor racing in what has become a highlight of the calendar.

The spectators were well entertained with many of the races so closely contested that the podium places were not decided until the very last stroke.

The relay event, with four athletes changing regularly, created a magnificent spectacle with the energy from the athletes transferring to excited spectators cheering on their teams, willing them to drive that bit harder.

The day was a fantastic community event, with athletes and spectators well fuelled by a terrific range of cakes and slices made by pupils and parents, on the cake and drinks stall run by parents. Elsewhere, rowers on the podiums were presented by medals made on site in the King’s DT department.

The spread of medals across all the clubs and schools ensured a successful day of racing for all. It was a great celebration of rowing in the region, and we are grateful for all the hard work of the King’s rowing community to bring the event together.
