Senior Footballers Take St George’s Park by Storm

The first week of January saw twenty-six senior footballers, ranging from Fifth Form to Upper Sixth, take part in the Football Development Tour to St George’s Park.

The players were able to follow in the footsteps of England’s best, training in the same state-of-the-art venue as their heroes use. Over three action-packed days, the players enjoyed three training sessions under the guidance of England FA coaches, recovered in the hydrotherapy pools, experienced a strength and conditioning session in the purpose-built gym and played two matches against local opposition. The trip was concluded with a Ten Pin Bowling trip and the opportunity to watch the third-round FA Cup game between West Bromwich Albion and Aldershot. A great time was had by all, setting them up perfectly for the forthcoming season.

Lower Sixth Student Joe S adds, “The Saturday afternoon training session with the FA Coaches was at a level we’d never experienced before and was just incredible. Even better still was the hydrotherapy session, with repeated plunges into the ice bath followed by the hot jacuzzi; we’d never experienced that before and it was amazing how it sorted out any twinges and muscle aches after the training session. All the facilities at St George’s Park are incredible; I was particularly impressed with the full-size indoor pitch, where they can alter the conditions to mimic any climate in the world! All of us were so grateful to our teachers who arranged everything, and to the Tour Sponsor, Malvern Scaffolding.”
