Senior Scholars and Head of Foundation Recognised at Installation Ceremony

Last week’s Evensong was the setting for the formal installation of our newly appointed Senior Scholars, as well as our new Head of Foundation, Mr Ben Charles.

Pupils, families and staff from King’s gathered together in the majestic Worcester Cathedral to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for King’s, celebrating the outstanding achievements of the school’s Scholars as well as the start of Mr Charles’ headship.

This year’s Senior Scholars are Samantha C and Bentley L. They have been selected for their exceptional academic performance and leadership potential, and will act as academic ambassadors across the school, helping to coordinate academic events and inspire fellow pupils. Their curiosity, dedication, and drive continues to inspire those around them.

Mr Charles commented: “This was a wonderful way to celebrate our new Senior Scholars and all they have contributed, and will continue to contribute, to the King’s community. For me personally, it is a great honour to lead King’s Worcester, and this traditional ceremony was a very special moment. I am enormously grateful for the warm welcome my family and I have received and look forward to the months and years ahead.”

The King’s School and Worcester Cathedral share a centuries-old bond, rooted in the Cathedral’s monastic origins. Today, the School continues its close relationship with the Cathedral, including the cherished tradition of the King’s Scholars. The Cathedral Statutes of 1544 provided for forty King’s Scholars with a natural aptitude for learning. By 1880, that number had reduced to twenty, and today they make up 3% of the Senior School roll – reflecting the academic rigour at the heart of the School’s mission.
