Under 14 Hockey Team Makes History with National Championship Victory
King’s Under 14 hockey team made history yesterday, becoming our first hockey team to reach, and subsequently win, the Tier 1 Plate National Finals of the Schools Championship, run by England Hockey.
After battling through four intense rounds of competition, the U14s secured their place in the final against The Perse at the prestigious Lee Valley Hockey Centre, the home of GB Hockey.
The team started strongly, earning an early short corner that just missed the target. Applying relentless pressure with a high press, they put The Perse’s defence under immediate strain. Dominating play down the right-hand side, they created numerous attacking opportunities.
Their efforts were soon rewarded when Amelia M calmly slotted home a penalty flick to give the team an early lead. Momentum remained with the girls, and Amelia struck again shortly after, finishing a well-worked attacking move with a precise shot into the bottom left corner.
With a 2-0 lead at halftime, the team remained focused, knowing they couldn’t afford to be complacent. The second half saw continued attacking pressure, with multiple chances created through open play and short corners. However, The Perse defended resolutely, preventing any further goals.
Despite this, a strong team performance ensured the 2-0 lead was enough to secure victory. Every player contributed to an outstanding display, showcasing skill, determination, and teamwork.
A huge thank you to all the supporters who travelled down to cheer the team on, and to England Hockey for hosting such a fantastic final.
This was an outstanding achievement and a proud moment for the team!
