1st XV Show Outstanding Determination in Eighteenth Modus Fixture

Large crowds gathered at Sixways Stadium last night for the 18th annual Modus Cup Challenge between King’s Worcester and RGS Worcester.

Supporters from across the Foundation community, including many children from King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford, watched as the school’s 1st XV battled to retain the title.

Since the first Modus Challenge Cup in 2007, King’s have won the trophy ten times and were looking take their winning streak to historic hat-trick of victories.

The hard-fought fixture saw King’s leading throughout the game until the last minute, when RGS converted a late try to take the final score to 20-21 to RGS.

With two tries from Captain, Will D, as well as Roman W, Henry H, the King’s team showed incredible determination, demonstrating outstanding set pieces and attacking play.

Following the match, Captain, Will D, commented: “A couple of things didn’t go our way, and a couple of things did. We’ve got a young squad, and next year I’ve got no doubt they’ll bounce back.”

King’s Foundation Director of Sport, Jonny Mason, said: “This was a hard-fought fixture and a great advert for schoolboy ruby. Credit to both teams for producing such a hugely physical and competitive game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.”

“Despite the disappointment of losing in the final play, our boys should be immensely proud of the way they played and the spirit they showed throughout. There were some exceptional highlights, but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough on the night – congratulations to RGS on their win.”
