CCF Leading the Way

Over the weekend of the 27th and 28th of January, seventeen of the Junior and Senior NCOs (non-commissioned officers) from King’s CCF completed a leadership weekend to develop their leadership, planning, and teamwork skills.

As well as sessions in the Lecture Theatre discussing the leadership and management qualities of famous figures as diverse as Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mahatma Ghandi, Jacinda Ardern, and David Beckham and exploring concepts such as service, respect, confidence, and Group Formation Theory, in College Hall and on College Green they enjoyed practical exercises of planning, communication and leadership with intriguing titles like, “Russian Boxes”, “Shipwrecked” and “Minefield Drop Zone”.

Having avoided the perils of shark-infested custard and brought every member of their team home safely, they ended the weekend with a much clearer sense of the privileges, demands and rewards of leadership, finely-honed skills of planning and communication and a stronger sense of camaraderie with their fellow NCOs.

Lower Sixth NCO Ellie C added, “It was great to see the Fifth Form cadets getting hands-on experience in the team-building exercises and making practical applications of the theory they had learned. It was particularly enjoyable to observe their improvement and development over the two days.

“As a more senior cadet, I appreciated the opportunity to help the younger members of my team to get the most out of the weekend, whilst also implementing new strategies myself.”
