King’s Cricketers Off to a Cracking Start

On Saturday the Cricket season officially started with the boys and girls teams both in action in their first blocks of the Summer.

As always the boys started with Cheltenham College, who are always a tough opponent and provide a great test for all teams. The U15A had an excellent game which went right to the wire, with the boys eventually losing by 5 wickets in the final over of the game. Sam B top scored with a fine 58 in testing conditions but sadly wasn’t enough to get us over the line. The 1st made an outstanding start to the season and continued their winning ways from their pre-season trip. A youthful team showed their quality, with the middle order all contributing well with the bat. Will T (65) and Henry H (51) were the stand outs, both recording half centuries. Henry H went one better and also took 5-10 from his 9 overs. The 2nd and 3rd XI also had competitive games but was great to see so many seniors boys involved this summer.

For the first time, the girls travelled to Shrewsbury School and although the poor weather meant a few games weren’t able to go ahead, the 1st XI’s game were able to get a game in. Bryony G (year 11) showed her quality with a magnificent 131 not out. off just 68 balls. Our total of 190 proved to be an insurmountable score and the girls eventually ran out comfortable winners. Katie H provided the threat with the ball, taking 4 wickets from her 4 overs.

The season continues this Saturday with the boys facing Sir Thomas Rich and the girls playing Rugby School.
