King’s CCF are Flying High

With opportunities for CCF cadets to fly at RAF Cosford being few and far between these days, our RAF cadets have been delighted to seize the chance to fly in a light aircraft from Gloucestershire Airport instead, under the expert guidance of Mr Knights who, as well as being a Flying Officer in our CCF, is a qualified private pilot and flight instructor.

The weather on Sunday was ideal for flying, so Ellie and Richie C, and Will and George G all had the opportunity to take control of a light aircraft and put into practice the training they have completed on Friday Parade evenings. Under strict supervision from Mr. Knights, they were able to experience the primary effects of flying controls and had the opportunity to put their radio training into practice by transmitting some radio calls to air traffic control. In addition to getting this experience in the air, the cadets were also treated to some spectacular views of Worcester and the surrounding countryside, the school site, and the Malvern Hills, and they also had the opportunity to fly over their own homes as well.

We hope to organise at least two more of these flying days before the end of the academic year. A special word of thanks should go to Abi Gamble and Mr Booth, who helped with the supervision of the cadets during the flights and while they were on the ground as well.
