Double Success at Shrewsbury for the Boat Club’s Senior Girls

On Saturday 12th May the rowers competed in Shrewsbury Regatta. The meandering River Severn made for exciting side-by-side two lane racing over the one thousand metre course. The Senior Girls squad had a very successful day, with Alice Evans and Sophie Lee comfortably winning the J18 Girls’ Pair and combining with Bea Evans and Emily Timm to take victory in the Senior Girls’ Quad Scull. The Senior Girls’ Eight was narrowly defeated in the final against Shrewsbury School. The Lower Remove (Year 9) boys and girls did very well in their quads, managing to win a heat each, with the crew of Eleanor Hill, Alice Baker, Alice Clarke, Izzy Trow and Felicity Quiney finishing with a commanding lead of three lengths.

The Upper Remove (Year 10) girls also performed well, easily beating their competition in the heat and semi-final to progress to the final, in which they lost narrowly. The Upper Remove double of Tom Angell and Oliver Timlin did very well to progress to the semi-finals, and the Senior Boys of Henry Armstrong, Charlie Kenny, Andrew Salkeld and Oliver Colebourne put in a strong performance in the Quad, Doubles and Pair. The Senior Boys’ Coxed Four of Zak Rawles, Miles Maley, Will Gorner, Fred Cronin and Ben Madden, inspired by their performances on rowing camp, excelled in their race. The Boat Club will be in action again this weekend at Worcester Regatta, and will then travel to Dorney Lake next weekend for the National Schools’ Regatta.
