Last weekend, seven Year 7 pupils took part in the British National Biathlon Championships in Nottingham. Five pupils took part in the U12 boys’ and girls’ events on Saturday and two took part in the U13 boys’ event on Sunday. The U12 competitors ran 800m and then had a 50m swim, whilst the U13 competitors doubled up and ran 1600m with a 100m swim.
All the competitors performed amazingly well, improving on their times and placings in their events. In the U12 boys, Harry C placed 5th, Henry H placed 9th and Seth E placed 14th – this was an amazingly strong team performance with a combined total of 7,386 points. In the U12 girls’ event, both Jess D and Frankie B improved their rankings to finish 28th and 29th (respectively), whilst in the U13 boys’ event, both Dan A and Ben G produced excellent times in both events to finish 23rd and 28th (respectively).
All these competitors should compete again at the National Schools Biathlon Championships in March (28th/29th) and, with their performances improving every time they take to the track and pool, all bodes well.
