Fencers Show Skill and Determination in Annual Match
Monday marked the home leg of the much-anticipated annual fencing match between KSW and RGS, with all fourteen of our pupils, including one from St Alban’s, stepping up to represent the school. The day showcased both the experience of our older fencers and the exciting promise of our younger squad, which is composed entirely of Years 7-9 pupils.
Our senior fencers dominated three of the five matches, demonstrating a combination of sparkling performances and excellent mastery of the basics, providing a strong foundation for future success. The impressive commitment and application of skills displayed by this year’s newcomers were equally encouraging, showing just how effectively they have risen to the challenge.
Two of our youngest fencers, Millie and Sam, showed incredible grit and determination by fighting back from 15-0 down to narrowly lose with a nail-biting final score of 29-30. This remarkable comeback speaks volumes about their maturity and resilience at such an early stage of their fencing journeys.
Meanwhile, Arlo and Charlie also delivered a spirited performance in their team match, briefly edging ahead before being overtaken, with the final score at 24-30.
The team is already looking ahead to the return leg at RGS next term, determined to build on their successes and continue their growth. Well done to all involved!
