Gold D of E at Buckingham Palace

Seven of our present Upper Sixth and a further eight recent OVs were some of the 1,750 young people to collect their Gold Award certificates in the gardens of Buckingham Palace on the morning of Thursday 17th May. They and their families had a very memorable day which was made all the more enjoyable by the warm, sunny weather. Their certificates were presented by Cherish Finden in the presence of HRH The Countess of Wessex. TRH The Earl of Wessex and The Duke of York were also in attendance. Cherish is the Executive Pastry Chef at The Langham Hotel, London but is probably best known as a very hard to please judge on Bake Off Crème de la Crème and Bake Off: The Professionals. She told the group: “You are never given anything in life, you have to work for it.”

The current students who received their certificates were Adam Brotherwood, Anna Cosson, Harry Jackson, Charlie Kenny, Louis Radley, Will Revill and Lucy Stratton whilst the OVs were Molly Francis, Hattie James, Kate Jarvie, Bobby Shackley, James Smalley and Megan Stigant (2017 leavers) plus Alice Fish and Matt Underwood (2016 leavers). In total, we have fourteen Upper Sixth who have achieved their Gold Awards; this is an exceptional number. The rest of these are now looking forward to their invite to the Palace.

As well as all of the Gold Award successes, a large number of Silver and Bronze awards have been presented this year. At the start of term, 79 Fifth Formers received their Bronze Awards in a presentation assembly whilst 37 Lower Sixth were presented with their Silver Awards in College Hall at the end of last term.

Very well done and congratulations to everyone!
